About Stephen 

Stephen Valassakis MSc BSc is a physiotherapist, educator, and researcher, combining his roles to work with individual athletes, coaches, and teams internationally across a variety of sports and environments. Previously he has worked within elite sports, particularly professional football in various roles including Head Physiotherapist positions. Currently, he is the Head Physiotherapist for the Australian Indigenous Roos & Koalas in Australia and travels across Australia, along with international consultancy, to work with athletes, coaches, and clubs.

Experience

Having grown up in Brisbane, Australia, Stephen moved over the the United Kingdom playing football (soccer) semi-professionally. During his time in the UK, he gained extensive education and experience in physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and sports performance medicine. This includes working with a wide variety of teams and athletes, in various capacities, including professional football (English Premier League, International Football, English Football Leagues, English National League), rugby, marathon athletes, athletics, AFL, cyclists, and basketball athletes. Stephen has also featured as a guest lecturer on a variety of topics for university degree programs along with being an educator for a private sports therapy and rehabilitation company. 

His passion and ethos is to ensure both high-performance and return-to-performance following injury using evidence-based practice and key objective testing/measures. He is particularly interested in knee joint/ACL rehabilitation, lower limb muscle/tendon injury, complex bone stress/fracture injuries along with athletic hip & groin pain. He currently lives in Brisbane Australia and travels across Australia to work with athletes, coaches, and teams, along with providing online consultancy services internationally.
